Overstock.com® supplies mattresses that are often as low in quality as they are in price.

What We Love:

Overstock.com® Cons:

• Quality of goods received depends on previous owner and is usually subpar
• Memory foam construction is often Chinese in origin and clay-based
• Very low density among available mattresses

Overstock.com® provides a convenient and secure medium for individuals to purchase “over-stocked” items directly from wholesalers, distributors, and retailers.  As a business, Overstock.com® functions as a virtual wholesaler for a wide array of producers and is an overall valuable sales medium.  The website has just under 1 million different products from an assortment of different companies.  However, the quality of product is directly related to that industry’s presence on Overstock.com®.  Unfortunately, the presence of the memory foam industry on Overstock.com® is weak at best.

Memory foam mattresses from Overstock.com® are often times the surplus inventory of a particular manufacturer.  These items are typically neglected for long periods of time.  In some instances, the foam mattresses become damaged from remaining packaged, compressed, and warehoused for long periods of time.

Many of the mattresses available through Overstock.com® are manufactured by Chinese companies that are notorious for using filler agents to simulate the weight of memory foam that is high in both density and quality.  Buyer beware:  The most common of these filler agents is clay, and there is no worse material on which to sleep.  Clay-based memory foam loses its ability to return to its original shape over time.  This significantly reduces the ability of the foam to contour around the gentle curves of the human body, providing uneven support that may lead to mild to severe joint pain and stiffness.

The most common foam density available on Overstock.com® is only 2.5lbs.  This is an extremely light consistency when compared to the 4, 5.3, and 7.2 lb densities used by both Tempurpedic® and Select Foam™.
