Tempur-Pedic® Company Review
Tempurpedic® is the most well known name in memory foam today.
What We Love:

The first to introduce memory foam Space Age technology to the U.S., Tempurpedic® is an industry leader in both research and product development. The history of the company is one fueled by space exploration, cutting edge innovation, and opportunistic venture capitalism.
The groundwork for the Tempurpedic® company was laid in the 1970s when the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) began developing a pressure-absorbing material for use in spacecraft seats. The innovative material was designed to evenly distribute the body weight of pilots to provide maximum and effective support through moments of high gravitational force, or G force. The material was made available to the public in the early 1980s, first gathering the attention of scientists in Sweden and Denmark.
Nearly a decade later, in 1992, Bob Trussel of Lexington, Kentucky visited Denmark to meet with researchers at Dan-Foam. Dan-Foam had been experimenting with memory foam since its introduction to the public in the early 1980s, searching for ways to engineer the material into the world’s first memory foam mattress. An opportunist and visionary, Trussel realized that the shape-shifting nature of a memory foam mattress could deliver support and comfort to American consumers like no other product at the time.
Bob Trussel founded Tempurpedic® shortly thereafter, creating engineering and fabrication facilities in the United States. Over time, Tempurpedic® merged with pioneer Dan-Foam, creating a global organization dedicated to delivering the Swedish Made Sleep System to millions of consumers the world over.
Today, Tempurpedic® remains at the head of its class by heavily investing in research, development, and advertising. The company produces a premium product at a high price for consumers. Tempurpedic® foam is petroleum-based, however, receiving criticism among earth-honoring consumers in search of all natural mattresses and green consumer products. Tempurpedic® mattresses are available in a variety of densities including 4lb, 5.3lb, and 7.2lb, creating a wide selection of soft-to-firm mattresses for consumers.
